My
name is John O'Ryan and I'm both a green enthusiast and I've built a
business out of helping others go green. To start my business I didn't
turn to colleges or university. Rather I began with a number of DIY
green power guides, and have been building and installing solar and
wind power solutions ever since.
Since
you're visiting my site, I assume that you're looking for How-To
power solutions, and I've
got to say that I'm relieved that you and I share the same goal: to Save
Money and our Planet!
What
some people don't realize is that the rising
costs of energy can be reduced, and even eliminated,
with a simple conversion
that you can perform yourself.
The key to finding
a solution to DIY and live off the grid
is to choose the right guides to teach you how to build your own solar
panels or wind turbines. There are a number of guides out there, the
problem is that most of them aren't worth the money, and choosing the best
alternative energy guide will help you to ensure your home conversion
project goes smoothly.
How
a Residential Wind Turbines Work
Put
simply a wind turbine, which is installed on a tower, uses the wind to
turn a generator. That generator then creates energy which is
compatible with your home.
In
a normal application, a home would be powered both by the wind turbine
and connected to the local power grid. If the wind speed is below 7MPH,
the home is fed off of power from the residential grid. When the wind
speed increases, and the wind turbine produces power that energy is
then fed into the home's power system. On windier days when the power
generated exceeds the power needed for you home, that power is fed back
into the grid and the power company actually pays you for it!
How
Residential Solar Power Works
Solar
power for a residential home include solar panels that produce part (or
all) of the energy required to power that home. These panels can easily
be built at home, mounted on the roof, and can completely eliminate
your dependency on the power grid.
In
a grid-tied residential application, excess energy can even be sold
back to the power company. Best of all, Solar energy is a completely
renewable energy source, and it doesn't require maintenance or fuel
(besides sunshine).
What
has Stopped us From Using These Energy Sources Before?
Traditionally,
building a windmill large enough to power a home or getting enough
solar panels to perform the conversion was an expensive endeavor that
cost anywhere from $6,000 to $25,000. This high cost is what's kept
most homeowners from converting their homes before today.
Luckily
though - in recent months some instructional manuals have become
available that teach you to Build
Your Own Wind/Solar Power System for
as little as $200. These guides teach you to convert
your home with low cost materials, and they include step-by-step
illustrated instructions.
In other words, even if you've never looked at a solar panel or wind
turbine before, you could build one tomorrow without any technical
knowledge required!
I've
spend the past couple of weeks reviewing 14 different guides
that can teach you to convert your home. I was surprised to find, that
theseguides
are excellent,
and the technology they teach is that which will
allow you to convert your home quickly and easily for very little cost.
When
we evaluated each guide our main criteria was Energy Savings, Cost of
Installation, Money-Back Guarantees, and simplicity. I was surprised to
find that 3 of these guides met all of our criteria:
Energy
Savings - Allowed for
conversions that will eliminate dependance on the power grid
Simple
to Follow - So simple that
even a novice, with no technical knowledge could convert an entire home
Affordable
Installation - Included the
cheapest materials, and didn't recommend excess or unnecessary equipment
Guaranteed
- Came with a 100% no-questions-asked Money Back Guarantee
Green
Power Easy
- #1 Pick for DIY Solar or Wind Power
The best
guide we found for learning to convert your home to renewable energy is
called Green Power Easy. The guide is written by Peter and Jennifer
Lowe, and it is the easiest-to-follow instructional series that will
teach you to completely convert your home to solar or wind power (or
both).
Green Power
Easy's main guide is a 137 pages, and covers everything you need to
know to build your own wind turbine(s), create solar panels, and
ultimately to create a renewable energy system that will allow you to
live off the grid. The guide provides
step-by-step instruction that clearly
lays out how to perform you home
conversion.
Watch the Green Power Easy
Video Review:
Green
Power Easy was the only instructional guide that included a supplement
to help homeowners design a green energy system suitable for their
entire home.
Another thing
we liked the most about this one was that it
taught us how to go green of that at a price anyone could afford.
More than that, the guide is
thorough enough that anyone could perform the home conversion.
Jen and Peter
Lowe both work in the Green Power industry and their knowledge clearly
shows through with their alternative energy guide. They set out to
create the best guide on the market, and it's our feeling that they
accomplished just that.
Another
element that makes this series stand out amongst the rest is the
availablillity of the
Green Power Easy TV series.
This monthly video feature builds upon what the guide teaches, and
takes your knowledge further. No
other guide can make the claim that they offer this type of bonus.
For the
easiest to follow guide, the best bonus material, and the availabillity
of a monthly TV series - Green Power Easy takes 1st place, hands down!
Power
4 Home
is an excellent
guide to learning how to convert to residential wind or solar power
systems.
The guide includes high quality instructional manuals, and it teaches
the same technologies as in the Green
Power Easy package.
The
guide is written by John Russel, a professional electrician and green
power enthusiast. His experience in the energy industry does show with
this particular downloadable book. The guide includes complete
illustration, and lays out everything you need to know to convert to
wind turbine or solar power.
Along
with an excellent guide, Power4Home
includes a lot of bonus material.
When you download this guide you get:

All
in all this guide is excellent. It's well worth it's cost, and it will
teach even a relative newcomer to convert their home. They only area
where we felt Green Power Easy beat this one was with the quality of
the videos. With Green Power Easy being the only guide to offer an
Internet TV series, the videos for our top pick were much better.
Having
said that, Power
4 Home
is one of only three guides to meet all of our criteria, and we are
highly recommending it.
Earth
4 Energy
- #3 Choice to Go Green the DIY Way
In third
place we have Earth 4 Energy. This guide is written by Michael Harvey,
and since it made the top three we're obviously recommending it.
Earth 4
Energy's main guide is a 84 page, 15 chapter, ebook that covers
everything you need to know to build your own wind turbine(s), create
solar panels, and ultimately to create a renewable energy system that
will allow you to live off the grid. The guide provides
step-by-step instruction that clearly lays out how to perform you home
conversion.
Earth 4 Energy Video Review:
Recently
added to Earth 4 Energy is a brand
new video series that adds more to the simplicity of this
guide.
Another thing
we liked about this one was that it
taught us how to go green of that at a price anyone could afford.
More than that, the guide is
thorough enough that anyone could perform the home conversion.
Michael
Harvey himself is a passionate environmentalist, and his passion comes
through in this excellent renewable energy guide.
If
our #1 or #2 picks didn't fit the bill, you couldn't go wrong with
Earth 4 Energy. Although not as simple to follow as Green Power Easy,
the guide does teach what it intends to.
There
is no denying that we are currently in a financial crisis, and most are
predicting an energy crisis to follow. Renewable energy is a simple
solution to do your part to avoid that energy crisis, and best of all
you can save a pile of money when you do convert your home.
